Titans break 15-year long streak in latest loss to the Green Bay Packers
Not the kind of history you want to be making.
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans (0-3) reached a new level of embarrassment in their 30-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers (2-1) on Sunday. New coach Brian Callahan has yet to taste a regular season victory through his first three games.
In fact, he is the first Tennessee coach in 15 years to do just that.
"I've not done a good enough job," Callahan said on Sunday. "We're an 0-3 football team. I'm an 0-3 head coach. It's embarrassing and disappointing. I've got to be a lot better than I've been. It's frustrating and unfortunate and not what I thought we were capable of to start the season."
Brian Callahan's Titans Tenure Off To A Shaky Start
Four previous coaches for this franchise in Mike Munchak, Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Mularkey and Mike Vrabel all went their entire tenures without falling into an 0-3 hole.
The last time the Titans started winless through the first three weeks of an NFL season, Jeff Fisher was still the coach. It was 2009, the team finished 8-8 and third place in the AFC South. That team boasted a -48 point differential, but would at least go on to see Chris Johnson post a 2,000+ yards-rushing season.
2024's team wishes it had that kind of optimism around it.
In the first two weeks, quarterback Will Levis was an easy scapegoat.
While he did throw two more interceptions (one a Pick 6) and lose a fumble in the loss, the bigger issue was his lack of protection from an offensive line that continues to struggle. Coming into Sunday's game, Tennessee's unit had allowed more pressures (33) than any other offensive line in the sport. The final pressure numbers will come out on Monday, but the Titans gave up eight more sacks to bring their season total to 12 against Green Bay.
Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson's defense also had its first poor outing of the year.
A group that led the league in total defense was absolutely demolished by former Tennessee quarterback Malik Willis who completed 13-of-19 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown. Willis also killed the Titans on the ground, rushing for an additional 73 yards and a score. The Packers racked up 378 total yards of offense, including 188 rushing.
Tennessee's defense has yet to cause a single turnover through three weeks, compounding the quarterback's turnover issues even further.
Losing to Willis, who set career highs in rushing, passing and scoring should be particularly humiliating. The Titans traded him to Green Bay at the roster cut deadline this year for 2025 7th-round pick after he lost the back-up job to veteran Mason Rudolph in training camp. It is not the worst loss that Tennessee has suffered as club, but it will haunt them for the remainder of this season.
How the Titans defense is working to end their turnover drought
Tennessee needs to play a complete game to get their first win.
