The Tennessee Titans are wrapping up their stay in Tampa Bay this evening with the first preseason game of their season, and one of the youngest defensive stars on their roster was made inactive for a couple of reasons.
2024 2nd Round DL T’Vondre Sweat has been mostly absent from the past half dozen Titans practices with an abdominal injury they’ve been working him back from slowly.
We came into this first preseason matchup expecting him to stay on the sideline, but the stated reason just changed. Early on in the Titans vs Buccaneers preseason broadcast, it was revealed that Sweat just had his tonsils out as well. Paul Kuharsky checked in on this with somebody in the building, and it sounds like he’s expected to take about a week to heal up from the minor operation.
The reason for the removal remains unknown for now. Perhaps it’s the same reason many of us have had them removed ourselves: simple infection issues. Whatever the case may be, he should be back with the team before they wrap up in Atlanta next week.
Whether his abdominal injury is still sidelining him on top of the tonsillectomy or not remains unclear. In the most recent action the media saw from him, on Wednesday in Nashville, he went through individual drills relatively gingerly.
Being off the field this time of year certainly means something for a second year player, but Sweat is already an established starter. I personally wouldn’t begin to worry about him until he’s still absent a couple weeks from now, which would be a serious delay based on what Kuharsky heard Saturday evening.
