Titans catch a stray from league source in latest Dianna Russini insider article about AJ Brown’s unhappiness with Eagles

A drive-by of the poor Titans

It’s always dangerous to say, “It can’t possibly get worse.” Because if you’ve been around the block long enough, you know that it can always get worse.

And unfortunately for the Tennessee Titans, they represent what “even worse” looks like for the rest of the NFL. That was made explicitly (and painfully) clear by one league source, who commented on a former Titan’s woes on his new team this weekend.

Titans Are Everybody’s Worst Case Scenario Right Now

NFL Insider Dianna Russini put together a league-wide roundup of topics at The Athletic this weekend, including the ongoing A.J. Brown drama in Philadelphia. Brown was famously traded away by GM Jon Robinson to the Eagles for the 18th and 101st overall picks on the night of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He’s been a revelation on his new team the past three seasons, racking up over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. For my money, he’s been the best receiver in the entire league in this span.

But in 2025, there’s been trouble in paradise. Despite being 4-0, the Eagles’ offense has been clunky. And their passing game has been non-existent at times. They’ve even played an entire half of football without gaining any positive yards through the air, for crying out loud. And Brown’s involvement has been minimal. He’s caught just 14 of his 28 targets, for 151 yards and one touchdown. But 109 of those yards and the touchdown all came in one game. So for three-fourths of the first month, Brown has been invisible out there.

It has led to all kinds of speculation about his unhappiness, and even the potential for this to lead to a trade. In Russini’s article, she quoted one league source who used the lowly Titans as the example of why Brown isn’t going anywhere:

“Brown doesn’t realize how bad it could be,” another league source told me. “You think if Howie Roseman is going to eventually trade him, he’s going to send him to a team with some elite quarterback? Think about how much worse it could be. Respectfully, (Brown) could still be on the 0-4 Titans. Life is good in Philly.”

Woof. It’s brutal because it’s true. The drama in Philly that programs like First Take can’t get enough of may continue all season, but the reality of how the other half lives in this league can’t be forgotten. Or, in the case of Tennessee, how the literal bottom of the NFL lives.
