NASHVILLE – The most recent NFL Sunday was an ideal one for Tennessee Titans fans. Not only did the Titans lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars and successfully continue "the tank," they also got some much needed help from around the league.

With the New York Giants pulling off an upset over the Indianapolis Colts, the Giants cost themselves the number one overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Tennessee jumped New York in the projected draft order and now sits with the second overall selection behind only the New England Patriots.

Should the Titans lose in Week 18 to the Houston Texans, this stroke of luck could end up changing the course of the franchise and giving Tennessee a chance to draft a new star quarterback. It may not even be embellishing to call that a miracle.

Not only were the Colts massive favorites on Sunday (-7.5), they were also the only team on the field playing for something. The Giants have every reason to lose and the Colts were still fighting for a playoff berth. A win would have positioned Indianapolis well for a wild card spot while a loss eliminated them from contention. But it was the Giants that answered the bell and played like they were fighting for something.

With their season hanging in the balance, the Colts surrendered 42 points to a Giants team that came in averaging an NFL-worst 14.3 points per game. And then there's Giants quarterback Drew Lock, who did himself a lot of favors by having a game for the ages that nobody could have predicted.

Drew Lock's Legendary Game

Lock finished the day 17-for-23 with 309 passing yards and five (5) total touchdowns. He was not sacked a single time. Lock's EPA/play (expected points added) was 1.18 on Sunday. That's the best performance (by EPA/play) of 2024 by any quarterback. By the same metric, it was also the best performance in the history of New York Giants quarterbacks and the sixth best performance by any quarterback since 1999.

In the last 25 years, 2007 Peyton Manning, 2007 Philip Rivers, 2019 Lamar Jackson, 2002 Peyton Manning, and 2007 Tom Brady are the only QBs with better one-game performances than Lock on Sunday.

This wasn't just a career highlight. It was an all-time great quarterbacking performance by a guy who woke up on Sunday with one touchdown pass this season. That's miraculous for the Titans, who will benefit greatly from this one game.

It's not every year that your team is in position to draft the best quarterback in a given draft class. It's even more rare for that opportunity to align with your roster needs. But that's what the Titans are looking at now and it feels like fate. Tennessee needs to take advantage and forever look back fondly on the miracle that was Week 17 Drew Lock.
