NASHVILLE — Amidst all the rumors of his unhappiness, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel stepped to the podium on Wednesday and told the media publicly that he was content in Tennessee.

“Of course I want to be here,” Vrabel said, after urging the people at home to not believe everything they read online.

For a moment, that seemed to be the end of it. An open and shut case. But the latest report from Adam Schefter would suggest that Vrabel's future in Tennessee is still very much up in the air.

Schefter wrote the following in his latest report on NFL coaching rumors:

"Despite speculation that the Titans are not expected to undergo significant change this offseason, there are expected to be organizational meetings between coach Mike Vrabel and the team's decision-makers to determine whether any notable changes will be made, league sources told ESPN."

According to Schefter, “There are people around the league who think that either Vrabel would be open to be moved to another team or that the Titans would be open to moving him – – maybe both.”

While Vrabel has now stated publicly that he wants to return as the Titans’ head coach, Schefter believes that there are still decisions to be made and meetings to be had before anything is finalized. “The situation in Tennessee currently is not settled,” he finished with.

Whether Vrabel stays or goes, it seems all but certain that the Titans’ organization will be making some changes this offseason. That’s to be expected when your football team has just five wins.

That said, I’d still be surprised if Mike Vrabel wasn’t the Titans’ head coach in 2024. When Amy Adams Strunk fired Jon Robinson in December of 2022, it felt like a commitment to Vrabel’s vision for this team moving forward. Pulling the plug on that vision after one offseason handcuffed by the existing roster and cap space would be premature in my eyes.

Any rumors about Vrabel leaving have come from sources from "around the league." But that doesn't mean people around the league actually have a good sense of what's happening in Nashville. The Titans have been keeping things close to the vest, and there is still no indication from within the organization that they intend to move on from their head coach.

Time will always tell in these scenarios, but I'm expecting Vrabel back until we hear otherwise.
