NASHVILLE – It was an embarrassing performance by the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon against the Washington Commanders.

The Titans were penalized 11 times in the first half and gave up 267 rushing yards during the 42-19 loss. After riding some momentum into the weekend after an upset win over the rival Houston Texans, this was the letdown of all letdown for Titans fans.

To make matters worse, this loss was a triple whammy. Tennessee got a few bad breaks in the final minutes of the afternoon games that impacted their position in the projected 2025 NFL Draft order. A brutal loss somehow also did nothing for the tank. and three games managed to not go their way.

Patriots and Jets Choke

The New England Patriots (3-10) and New York Jets (3-9) are two teams, like the Titans, sitting with just three wins on the season. That means they are also in contention for one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

It's objectively better for the Titans to have the Patriots and Jets win games. It could end up going a long way when the draft rolls around and there's a franchise-changing player on the board. And for nearly four full quarters on Sunday afternoon, it was looking like Tennessee was going to get the help it needed.

Both the Patriots and Jets were leading late…and both choked away the lead and ended up losing.

Anthony Richardson led the Indianapolis Colts down the field and connected with Alec Pierce for a 3-yard touchdown pass on 4th down with the game on the line. Shane Steichen decided to go for broke and kept his offense on the field for a two-point conversion attempt. Richardson powered across the goal line and gave the Colts a 25-24 win. New England dropped to 3-10 on the season.

The Jets started the afternoon with a 21-7 lead, but slowly watched the game slip through their fingers. A touchdown run by Zach Charbonnet gave Seattle the lead with 5:34 remaining and Aaron Rodgers could not strike back. New York dropped to 3-9.

Panthers fumble in OT

In the late afternoon slate, the Carolina Panthers (another team with 3 wins) looked to be in position to upset the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baker Mayfield made a few clutch passes at the end of regulation to set up a field goal and send the game to overtime…and Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard fumbled with the ball in field goal range, bailing out the Bucs who would eventually win on a Chase McLaughlin field goal.

The Panthers also fell to 3-9 with the collapse, pushing them in front of the Titans in the projected 2025 NFL Draft order and leaving Tennessee with no ground gained.

As of now, the Titans hold the 7th overall pick. That's exactly where they picked last year after going 6-11. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in line for the first overall pick with a 2-10 record. The Jags will come to Nashville for an AFC South clash next week.

If the Titans are going to lose in embarrassing fashion, you'd at least like to see them gain some ground in the draft order and help the cause that is "The Tank." But this NFL Sunday found a way to be bad for Tennessee in more ways than one.
