NASHVILLE – Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is back in the news, this time in connection with the head coaching vacancy for the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has reportedly contacted Sanders to gauge his interest in being the next head coach for the historic franchise. While Sanders has expressed no desire to jump to the NFL in the past, he could make an exception to return to the organization that he played five seasons for (three as an All-Pro).

The idea of Sanders in Dallas has taken over the headlines and started a lot of talk about the 2025 NFL Draft. If the Deion is coaching the Cowboys, would they make a push for the number one overall pick to draft Shedeur? What would that trade look like?

I've seen the idea floated out there that the Titans could trade the number one overall pick to Dallas and get quarterback Dak Prescott back in the deal. But I think everyone is looking at the wrong Cowboys superstar.

In a world where Deion Sanders gets hired by the Cowboys and is motivated to trade up and draft his son, the Titans should look to acquire Micah Parsons.

2025 will be the fifth and final year of Parsons' rookie contract after having his option exercised by the Cowboys. That means that he will make $24 million this season and become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. This is the time for Dallas to pay him or trade him.

The Cowboys lack direction at the moment. They do not have a head coach. They do not have a complete roster. They do not have any cap space. But they do have some high-end talent at premium positions in Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb. With the ascension of the Washington Commanders and the tough NFC East, perhaps the best thing for Dallas would be to do a quick reset.

Hire Deion Sanders. Trade for the number one pick and get your franchise quarterback. Move on from Dak Prescott and try to clear cap space while bringing in draft capital. Begin a new era.

It makes no sense for Tennessee to commit to a 32-year-old Dak Prescott at this stage in his career. Especially when he comes with a massive contract.

The big downside of moving off the 1st overall pick is the fact that Tennessee likely misses out on all of the premiere talent at the positions of need. Abdul Carter won't make it out of the Top 5. The top offensive tackles won't make it out of the Top 10. The only way it's worth it to move that far back is if you're getting an elite talent like Parsons to transform your defense and giving him a large contract extension.

It's a longshot. But in the world where Deion Sanders becomes the next coach of the Cowboys, it's a conversation worth having. It's far more likely that a trade involving Prescott, in my opinion.
