Head coach Brian Callahan and the Tennessee Titans made Dennard Wilson their new defensive coordinator on Wednesday night, replacing Shane Bowen.
The former Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach earned a stamp of approval from several players across the league, including Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay.
"Yes Sir!!!," Slay wrote on "X" in response to Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz breaking the news on Wilson.
Before joining the Ravens, Wilson was in Philadelphia where he served as the Eagles' defensive backs coach in 2021. He then took on an extra role as passing game coordinator during Philly's Super Bowl run in 2022.
Slay Wanted Wilson to Stay in Philly
Slay recently made it very clear that he never wanted the Eagles to move on from Wilson and that he should have been the one to replace Jonathan Gannon over Sean Desai.
“I think (Wilson) would have made a lot of difference,” Slay told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Jan. 17. “He was loved by us. I thought, for sure, he should have stayed.”
With Wilson in charge, the Eagles finished the 2022 season with the top-ranked pass defense. That wasn't the case for the Birds this year under Desai and Matt Patricia.
Wilson only made his case for defensive coordinator better during his lone year with the Ravens. Baltimore ended their 2023 season with the sixth-best pass defense in the league.
According to Schultz, Wilson also drew interest from the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams.
He brings nine years of coaching defensive backs to Tennessee, an area that the Titans could certainly use his expertise on.
