NASHVILLE — With the NFL trade deadline looming and the Tennessee Titans seemingly open for business, Derrick Henry's future with the organization has never seemed more shaky.
People are talking. Teams are calling. As reported by Buck Reising of AtoZ Sports, the Baltimore Ravens have currently expressed the most interest in acquiring the legendary running back from Tennessee.
But even with the team struggling and the rumors swirling, Henry is remaining loyal to the organization and fanbase that welcomed him back in 2016.
With All-Pro safety Kevin Byard, a longtime teammate of Henry, being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week, Henry was asked in Tuesday's press conference if he would like to be moved somewhere he could contend for a Super Bowl. The All-Pro running back very quickly refuted any idea that he would like to be traded.
"Have I said anything like that? I'm here. I'm here at work ready to go practice and focus on beating the Falcons," said Henry. "Until I'm told different, I'm focused on winning and beating the Falcons. That's my main focus."
Similar to Byard, Henry has expressed interest in the past of remaining with the Titans. In a sports culture that rewards "ring chasing" and devalues loyalty, Henry has stayed true to the team that drafted him. Obviously for Byard, the business side of the game won out. It's possible Henry has the same fate.
Henry is currently 1,349 rushing yards away from surpassing Eddie George as the Titans/Oilers all-time leading rusher. It goes without saying that most fans would like to see him get there.
Regardless of what happens over the next few days leaning up to the deadline, Derrick Henry will be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever put on a Titans uniform. His unwavering loyalty to the organization makes him even more special to the city of Nashville.
