NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans defeated the Houston Texans by a final score of 32-27 on Sunday as second-year quarterback Will Levis continued to shine and create explosive passing plays.
It was a much needed win and morale boost for Tennessee. Frustration had been building for players and coaches alike about how close the Titans were to breaking through. For all of the improvement the Titans had made over the course of the season, they entered Sunday with a 2-8 record to show for it.
We've heard head coach Brian Callahan, GM Ran Carthon, and numerous players on the team talk about the "ball not bouncing their way." A breakout game felt inevitable…and we saw it on Sunday.
Will Levis completed 75 percent of his passes while throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns. Chig Okonkwo scored a game-winning 70-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Calvin Ridley continued his success with 93 receiving yards. Ageless wonder Nick Folk made three clutch field goals from 50+ yards out.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jarvis Brownlee Jr. had the first interception of his NFL career, T'Vondre Sweat recorded his first career sack, and the defensive front stepped up late in the game. An overall good Sunday for Titans fans…except for those who have been rooting for "the tank" and wanting the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Projected NFL Draft Order
As good as it feels to get a win, the Titans' projected position in the upcoming draft was shifted significantly on Sunday. Now sitting at 3-8, the Titans are on track to have the 6th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. That's a four-spot drop from the 2nd position they held prior to Sunday's win.
With two games remaining against the Jacksonville Jaguars, it wouldn't be crazy to see the Titans finish the season with 5-6 wins on the season and a draft pick outside of the Top 10. There are still eight teams with three wins or less, so every game means something.
One of the ways Will Levis can ensure he's the Titans' quarterback in 2025 is by winning enough games and taking Tennessee out of a spot to draft a top QB. He seems well on his way to doing that.
The Titans are tied with the Panthers, Jets, and Browns at 3-8, but currently hold the tiebreaker over New York and Cleveland because of strength of schedule.
The most recent mock draft from tankathon.com has both QB Shedeur Sanders and QB Cam Ward off the board in the Top 3. With no other first round quarterbacks on the big board, the Titans selected WR Tetairoa McMillan in that mock and continued to build around Levis.
