Sources: Titans fire another assistant coach days after dismissing Brian Callahan as head coach
The Tennessee Titans have made another coaching staff change after dismissing Brian Callahan, sources tell A to Z Sports.
Edit: a previous version of this article was corrected to reflect the date of firing as Tuesday, not Wednesday
The Tennessee Titans became the first team in the NFL this year to fire their head coach on Monday, relieving Brian Callahan of his duties after a 4-19 tenure. His father, OL coach Bill Callahan, unsurprisingly left along with him. However, interim head coach Mike McCoy said on Tuesday that the rest of the staff would remain in place.
Turns out that this isn’t quite the case, as Brian Callahan’s right-hand man, Tom Jones, was fired on Tuesday. This didn’t come to light until Wednesday at midday.
Assistant to the head coach Tom Jones fired Tuesday
Tom Jones was Brian Callahan’s right-hand man during his time in Tennessee, and the initial expectation was that he would stay with the team and assist McCoy going forward. But President of Football Operations Chad Brinker relieved him of his duties on Tuesday.
Tom Jones NFL Quick Facts:
- Jones was hired by the Titans in 2024.
- He spent 25 years with the Raiders, originally joining in 1996 as an intern.
- He filled a wide range of roles and responsibilities across those 25 years.
Jones had been with the Raiders for over two decades before joining Callahan’s inaugural staff in 2024. He’d worked under many different head coaches in his time in the league and was prepared to make this transition as well. In his final two seasons with the Raiders, he served as vice president of football operations/assistant to the head coach.
