The Tennessee Titans initial 53-man roster has been finalized ahead of the 3:00pm CDT deadline on Tuesday. It’s important to keep in mind that the finality of this list is particularly fragile, as the Titans have the 1st overall waiver claim at their disposal. They intend on using it, too. The front office has been hard at work meticulously scouring the rest of the league this August for players from other teams who could make this team better. So a number of the last spots in each of these position rooms could be churned with free agent signings or waiver claims as soon as midday Wednesday.
Amongst the headlines on cutdown day were the decision to cut WR James Proche, keeping just six receivers on the initial roster. I wouldn’t believe that’s the final outcome until we get closer to opening day… And then there was the decision to keep 11 offensive linemen, as the front office opted to keep all three of their valuable swing tackle options. This is likely an instance of roster gymnastics as they try to safeguard valuable depth and eventually move somebody to the practice squad. RB Tyjae Spears was officially placed on IR, giving him at least four game weeks to rest his high ankle sprain. Here is how it all shook out after the smoke cleared:
