It's nothing new for the Tennessee Titans to be overlooked or even disrespected by members of the national media who pay little attention to what's happening within the organization.
But Nick Wright, the co-host of "First Things First" on FS1, recently ripped the Titans' organization apart on national television and his opinion shows his lack of knowledge about the direction Titans football is heading.
If you haven't already seen this..brace yourself. Wright's stance on the Titans is one of the worst I've seen from a national media member in quite some time.
While discussing NFL win totals and the AFC South on a recent edition of First Things First, Wright's co-hosts Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes began to explain how every team in the division could be competitive in 2024. "The Titans are going to be better," said Broussard, as Wildes pointed out that Tennessee was "going for it."
"I think the Titans might end up with the number one pick," replied Wright, insinuating that Tennessee was going to be the worst team in football in 2024. So then why is Tennessee making moves to improve their football team this offseason? "I think because they're poorly run," said Wright, doubling down.
Not only a shot at the roster, but a shot at an owner and GM that have always been committed to winning football games.
Nick…you're telling on yourself. You might as well sit down at your desk and let your viewers know off the top that you don't follow Tennessee Titans football and you don't know much about their current situation or future.
The same Tennessee Titans that went 6-11 last season are improved at quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line, and secondary from where they were 12 months ago. They have a new head coach, a second-year GM, and a roster that is only getting younger, healthier, and more modern.
Why sign all these players? How about because they want to win games? Because they had the cap space to do it? Because the only way to sell tickets and establish a new winning culture is to…actually acquire talent and win?
I'm not going to sit here and claim Tennessee should be the favorite to win the AFC South. I don't know what this team is…I'm not sure anybody can know that at this point in the offseason. But even if the Titans aren't a playoff team in 2024, the front office has put themselves in a position to get answers and move in the right direction. We'll know if Will Levis is the guy after 2024. If Tennessee had chosen to bottom out and not acquire talent this offseason, that would not be the case.
Not to mention that'd also really insult a fanbase that is being relied upon to buy tickets and PSLs for a new stadium that Wright seems to have forgotten about.
Amy Adams Strunk wants to win. Point blank. The Titans built a new practice facility. They have a new stadium on the way. They've spent big on free agents (including being the biggest spends of the 2024 offseason). They've made controversial moves to fire coaches with an expectation to be great, not just good.
And I get it…I like Mike Vrabel too. I think Mike Vrabel is a really good football coach and I think the Titans could have been great again with Vrabel calling the shots. As much as I may have disagreed with the decision to move on from him when they did, I know it's a decision that was made with motivation to be great.
If you're looking at the moves the Tennessee Titans have made this offseason and your only reaction is…"that only makes sense because they're a poorly run organization," you are off base in more ways that one. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case here with Nick Wright.
Why the Titans should draft WR Malik Nabers if given the opportunity
The Titans need to be all over Malik Nabers in the 2024 NFL Draft.
