NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans fought hard, but still fell to the Minnesota Vikings by a final score of 23-13 on Sunday afternoon.
A series of blown calls and questionable officiating put Tennessee behind the eight ball. By the end of the game, there were too many setbacks via penalties for the team to ultimately overcome.
As frustrating as that loss might have been, this time of year there is always upside in a loss. The Titans got no help from other games around the NFL, but still found a way to climb in the projected 2025 NFL Draft order.
Coming into Week 11, the Titans were one of five teams in the league with just two wins. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants are also in the Two Win Club…and all of them followed suit and either lost or did not play on Sunday afternoon.
The Jaguars got embarrassed, losing 52-6 to Detroit. The Browns got blown out by the New Orleans Saints as Taysom Hill scored three touchdowns. The Raiders got gashed for 100 yards by Titans legend Jonnu Smith, and ultimately lost to the Dolphins in convincing fashion.
Then there's the New York Giants, who were on a bye. But there's an argument to be made that the Giants still won this weekend, as the team will be benching quarterback Daniel Jones for Tommy DeVito.
Titans fans need to root for all of these other bottom dwellers to win some games. It could have serious long-term ramifications in the form of a top draft pick.
But even without getting the help they needed, the Titans moved up to the projected second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Tennessee now has a weaker strength of schedule than the other 2-8 teams, winning them the tiebreaker.
Even better news, the only team ahead of the Titans in the projected draft order is the Jaguars, who sit at 2-9. Jacksonville has played one more game and will be on a bye in Week 12. If the Titans lose to the Houston Texans, both teams will be sitting at 2-9. Jacksonville is also a divisional opponent, which means the two scheduled games between the Titans and Jags could very well determine who gets the number one pick in the draft.
While things on the field may seem hopeless for Titans fans, the future gets brighter with every loss that goes in the record books.
