NASHVILLE – While the Tennessee Titans take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon from Lucas Oil Stadium, Titans fans may want to direct their attention to some other games around the league. But not in the way you think.
With the Titans sitting at 3-11, it might be easy to check out of your NFL Sunday and take a nap on the couch instead of locking in for the afternoon slate. But two games on Sunday afternoon will have a large impact on the future of Tennessee Titans football.
Giants-Falcons and Jaguars-Raiders are the games to watch this week. If they swing the Titans way, it could put Tennessee in a position to land a franchise-altering player in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Titans are currently sitting with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite a 3-11 record, Tennessee4 hasn't been able to jump some of the other bottom feeders with 2-3 wins in the projected draft order. It goes without saying that there's a very big difference between having the 2nd or 3rd overall pick and having the 6th overall pick.
Quarterbacks Shedeur Shanders and Cam Ward are going to go off the board in the first three selections along with Heisman Trophy winner and two-way superstar Travis Hunter. Landing any of those three players could be a franchise-changing move for a team like the Titans. But you can't get them if you don't have a Top 3 pick.
Let's just assume the Titans lose out and finish the season 3-14. The only team they would be guaranteed to jump in the draft order is the Jacksonville Jaguars (who they play in Week 17). That puts the Titans in the 5th spot and needing help from around the league. A win by the Giants (2-12) or Raiders (2-12) would do the trick, and both teams have winnable games on Sunday.
Las Vegas is actually favored at home (-1.5) against the Jaguars this weekend. The Giants are heavy underdogs as they go to Atlanta to take on the Falcons, but with rookie Michael Penix Jr. making his NFL debut at quarterback, anything could happen in that one.
It's probably the most winnable game left on the schedule for both the Giants and Raiders, who currently hold the top two picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. These games mean everything for the Titans.
It could give Tennessee a clear path to the Top 3 and being able to draft a new franchise quarterback in then first round. With Will Levis clearly on his way out, the importance of that cannot be overstated.
Mike Vrabel’s next head coaching job may already be decided, per ESPN analyst
“I think Vrabel’s spoken for.”
