The Tennessee Titans had a tale of two games while wearing the famed Houston Oilers throwback uniforms in 2023. The Titans caught fire donning the powder blue jerseys against the Atlanta Falcons in Will Levis' spectacular NFL debut, but were promptly thumped by the Houston Texans in the same attire in Week 17.
The last time Titans fans saw the throwback uniforms, it left a bitter taste in their mouths. Tennessee isn't going to stop wearing the Oilers gear, but when they might opt to break them out in the 2024 season has been a mystery.
That was until legendary Titans radio play-by-play announcer Mike Keith spilled some tea on the most recent installment of the Official Titans Podcast with guest Jim Wyatt.
Towards the end of the episode, Wyatt, who is known for his affinity for visors, was choosing between a selection of Titans visors to add to his rotation. Wyatt had narrowed his choices down to an Oilers visor and another, which he felt complimented his cargo pants nicely.
That's when the VOTT jumped in while Wyatt was pondering which visor he would sport and said, "Because we're not wearing Oilers 'til Week 18. This is for training camp."
Here we are, in the thick of July, with no real Titans news to react to, and Mike Keith gives us this. That's why he's the GOAT.
For those who have yet to familiarize themselves with the Titans' 2024 schedule, the Houston Texans are set to make the trip up to Nashville for a regular season finale against the Titans. Hopefully things go better than they did when these two teams last met.
This is massive news for Titans fans and could be a sign of things to come. If the Titans are wearing the Oilers throwbacks just once in a home game against Houston, it feels as if this might turn into a tradition. Could it be that every time the Texans visit the Titans, they will rub the city of Houston's history right in their faces (and hopefully win in the process)?
Time will tell, but for now, Titans fans can thank Mike Keith, along with Jim Wyatt's adoration for visors, and the OTP for being at the forefront of all things Oilers throwbacks.
