Surrounding Cam Ward with the best staff will be atop Robert Saleh’s priority list with the Titans.

The Tennessee Titans have their new head coach. Robert Saleh is expected to be introduced as the new head man in Nashville on Thursday. With that, the defensive mind needs to pluck an impressive offensive coordinator option to get fans even more excited about the future of QB Cam Ward.

According to Adam Schefter, the Titans will hire former New York Giants HC Brian Daboll as their new OC – if he does not land the HC job for the Las Vegas Raiders. That seems to be progressing, as Jordan Schultz has reported that Daboll is in Nashville to sign on to be the OC for the Titans, too.

Who could be in line to be Daboll’s quarterbacks coach for the Titans? That is a position on staff that plenty of eyes will be set on to ensure that Ward receives the correct development to reach his potential.

QB coach connections to Brian Daboll and overall potential fits for Titans

Shea Tierney

Tierney has worked with Daboll since 2017 at Alabama. Since then, he’s worked alongside the former Giants head coach in New York and with the Buffalo Bills. He has a strong relationship with the offensive mind, and Daboll may reward him with this sort of opportunity.

“Miss him and love him – Appreciate the opportunity he gave me.” — Tierney on Daboll following the latter’s firing from NYG

Ken Dorsey

The current passing game specialist for the Dallas Cowboys spent time with Daboll during his Bills tenure. Then, Dorsey was the QBs coach and pass game coordinator under Daboll. He was elevated to the Bills OC position in 2022. He spent 2024 as the OC for the Cleveland Browns.

Jerry Schuplinski

Schuplinski is currently a senior offensive assistant/pass game specialist for the Houston Texans. He was with Daboll in 2016 with the New England Patriots. Then, he held the role of assistant quarterbacks coach. Daboll was the tight ends coach for NE in 2016.

Tanner Engstrand

News broke earlier on Tuesday that the New York Jets and OC Tanner Engstrand are going separate ways. Engstrand was a highly-respected offensive assistant entering last offseason. Joining Daboll’s staff in Tennessee with Ward at QB could be a great opportunity to prove he deserves another chance at OC somewhere rather quickly.

Luke Getsy

Getsy is a senior offensive assistant for the Green Bay Packers at the moment. He is a former offensive coordinator for multiple NFL teams.

He and Robert Saleh were both fired from their teams in 2024 and then joined the Packers in flip-flopped roles for the following campaign. Getsy was a defensive assistant, while Saleh was an offensive assistant on the same staff. Most of Getsy’s coaching history has been on the offensive side of the ball.

Titans must reach further than the football field with QB coach hire for Cam Ward

I discussed the staff opening with Easton Freeze, who knows the organization better than just about anyone. His hopes for the next quarterbacks coach in Tennessee were crystal clear, and they make plenty of sense for the future of their offense.

“Cam Ward’s next quarterback coach must be able to reach him on a personal level. In 2025, this is where I think former QB coach Bo Hardegree deserves his most credit. It was clear he earned Cam’s respect and was able to relate to him. Saleh and Daboll’s choice to replace Hardegree must demand Ward’s respect one way or another. Perhaps an authoritarian can do that, but I tend to think a gentler approach would be better received in this circumstance.

I also think it will be important to bring somebody in who will emphasize the details in practice. The previous regime was publicly criticized for their drill choices and practice habits. How much of that was fair, I’m not here to say. But I do think Ward’s casual tendencies—both on the practice field and in games—is something his new coach should be capable of shaping positively.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I think his next QB coach needs to be ready to try to marry Ward’s quirks with repeatable process. His footwork and base is the primary focus of his offseason program, and the hope is that he takes a leap on that front mechanically.

His proclivity to throw from unique arm angles and back across his body are two things I’m not sure they should waste their time trying to beat out of Ward. At least, not until it becomes a glaring problem for him. As Ward jokingly said at the end of the year, he learned as a rookie that you can in fact throw across your body in the NFL!

Instead, this coach probably needs to work on honing these tendencies. Find a way to maximize these differences!” — Easton Freeze, A to Z Sports
