NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have a new starting right tackle for Sunday afternoon’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.
According to Paul Kuharsky at PaulKuharsky.com, the Titans are planning to start veteran Leroy Watson IV at right tackle in place of Nicholas Petit-Frere.
The Titans promoted Watson to the 53-man roster earlier this week and waived John Ojukwu.
The Titans acquired Watson in a trade, giving up a seventh round pick to the Cleveland Browns back in April. It surprised me to see Watson was signed to the Titans practice squad after training camp. Given what Tennessee gave up for him and his experience playing under Bill Callahan, Watson seemed like a logical choice to make the team.
Watson played in seven games for the Browns in 2023, logging 32 snaps at left tackle and 12 at right tackle.
Now he is being thrust into action for the Titans in a pivotal role. Getting improved play from the right side of the offensive line is essential to Tennessee turning the 2024 season around and supporting Will Levis adequately.
It's time to see if Watson was worth that draft pick Ran Carthon traded away for him.
