NASHVILLE — According to reports, the Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day.

Joseph-Day played for the Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers in 2023. He was in Nashville for a visit with the Titans over the weekend.

A former sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Joseph-Day had a career-high 11 quarterback hits in 2023 and tied a career-high with three sacks. Putting him next to Jeffery Simmons in Tennessee intrigues me.

Joseph-Day signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Chargers during the 2022 offseason and became a team captain in LA. He started 16 games in 2022 and the first 14 games of the 2023 season before being waived by the team in a surprise move.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 310 pounds, Joseph-Day is run stopper with upside that can play the role Teair Tart used to have in the Titans defense.

Given the state of the Titans defense and the lack of experience, I'm all for adding veteran talents that are instant upgrades to this roster. Tennessee needed some depth on the defensive line desperately, and Joseph-Day can at least be a veteran rotational piece.

He may not have played his best football with the Chargers, but I think there's a lot of potential here that could get tapped into by playing alongside Jeffery Simmons. Joseph-Day was at his best when he was with the Rams and had Aaron Donald as a teammates. He has also been healthy and available over the past two seasons, which is essential.

This one is checked off the list, but the Titans front office still has some work to do to fill out this defense.
