NASHVILLE — Less than 24 hours after beating the Tennessee Titans 19-16 in overtime, the Houston Texans are making an addition to rub salt in the wound of Titans fans.

The Texans claimed former Titans defensive tackle Teair Tart on waivers on Monday. The 26-year-old defender was waived by Tennessee over the weekend and now lands with a division rival competing for a playoff spot.

Tart made 21 tackles and recorded one sack in 11 games with the Titans this season.

Should the Titans be bothered by Tart landing in Houston? Certainly not. Tart's relationship with the organization had been strained ever since he was tendered a contract and paid $4.3 million for the 2023 season.

Over the last few months, Tart has failed to make an effort to get on the field during injury and has not taken the next step as a pass rusher. He hasn't put in the work and hasn't bought in. Tennessee can't afford that energy in the locker room.

But is it possible Tart thrives with the Texans? Absolutely. Just because he wasn't bought into the culture in Tennessee doesn't mean he won't be motivated by an opportunity to make a playoff push in Houston. He's still a very talented run stopper who commands attention and can be disruptive to opposing offensive lines.

For that reason alone, Titans fans are probably feeling a bit salty about this one. This has been a nightmare season in Nashville, and losing one of your better defensive players to a divisional rival because he wasn't happy with organization is a tough pill to swallow.

Make no mistake about it, though. Moving on from Teair Tart was necessary for the Titans. It doesn't matter what he does in Houston. The Titans will play the Texans again in Houston on December 31st of this year.
