The NFL and Thanksgiving go together like peanut butter and jelly. For many sports fans they are inseparable…myself included. Which is why it's impossible for me to fully separate Tennessee Titans football from this week's national holiday.
If Titans player were to be compared to the signature Thanksgiving dishes, what would they be? I'll give it my best shot.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine – Stuffing/Dressing
Every year, people across America break out stuffing at Thanksgiving dinner and think to themselves "Why don't we do this more often?" T
hat's exactly what Titans fans say to themselves every time Nick Westbrook-Ikhine catches a touchdown. He knows where to be and always delivers. They need to get him involved more!
Calvin Ridley – Mac and Cheese
Mac and cheese is always good. It's one of the best foods in any Thanksgiving spread. But the debate will always exist – Does it belong at the table? Some people make a case that it's not a true Thanksgiving food.
Similarly, Calvin Ridley is always going to be productive. When you look up at the end of the season, he's most likely going to be over 1,000 receiving yards. But can you build an offense around him? Is he a true WR1? Does he belong in the conversation?
Jeffery Simmons – Pumpkin Pie
It's a staple. It's one of the big names. Sometimes people like to pretend it's overrated…but then you're sitting on the couch at the end of the night and pumpkin pie knows how to bring it home.
When it's crunch time, Big Jeff is the closer for the Titans defense. He's the highest paid player on the team for a reason.
Nicholas Petit-Frere – Turkey
Turkey is big and looks good. It catches your eyes the same way Nicholas Petit-Frere does getting off the bus. But at it's core…it's just not any good. It doesn't get the job done no matter how many chances you give it.
At the end of the day, you eat it because you have to. It feels like an obligation. If there was any other meat option available, you’d go for that…but this is all you've got.
Jarvis Brownlee – A good casserole
A casserole is not going to be the big headline of the meal. It's not the first thing you think of when you dream up a Thanksgiving spread. You don't see it coming…but when you it a chance, it can blow you away. Then suddenly it's all you're talking about.
I'm not sure anybody expected Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to be a centerpiece of the Titans defense this year. After the marquee additions of L'Jarius Sneed and Chidobe Awuzie, he seemed destined for a backup role. But now that Brownlee has been sprung into action, he gets people talking every week.
Harold Landry III – Cranberry sauce
Cranberry sauce isn't a main course. It's not talked about frequently. But it compliments just about everything on the table.
Harold Landry III is second fiddle to Jeffery Simmons. Because of his mellow demeanor, he's talked about less than Arden Key, T'Vondre Sweat, and players in the secondary. But there's no debating that Landry makes the Titans defense much better.
Will Levis – Mashed potatoes
The most anticipated food at every Thanksgiving meal has got to be the mashed potatoes. When the mashed potatoes are good, creamy, buttery, and cooked just right…there's really nothing like it. It's something you can't help but tell other people about.
But when mashed potatoes are done wrong, it's really bad. Inedible bad. Dry and lumpy or way too soupy…it just brings down everything around it. For all the excitement Will Levis can bring to the Titans offense, we've also seen a few moments where he's detrimental to what the unit has going on.
Titans provide detailed update on CB Chidobe Awuzie returning from Injured Reserve
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans have been without cornerback Chidobe Awuzie for over three months now. Awuzie last suited up for the Titans in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers before a groin injury landed him on Injured Reserve. His absence is significant for Tennessee's defense. Awuzie was not only supposed to be a […]
