NASHVILLE – With the NFL trade deadline swiftly approaching, things got significantly more complicated for the Tennessee Titans in the last 24 hours.
Veteran safety Quandre Diggs went down with an injury during Sunday's 20-17 overtime win over the New England Patriots. It has since been reported to be a season-ending Lisfranc injury that will require surgery, per Ian Rapoport.
"Obviously, [updates] aren't going to be good between Cushenberry and Diggs. Those guys will miss significant time likely," said Brian Callahan in an update for Titans media on Monday. "Very, very likely to head to IR when we make those moves. Disappointed for them. That's a bummer, those guys were really doing a nice job playing for us. That's disappointing for them and for us."
That will not only have significant consequences on the field for the Titans defense but it also looms large for Tennessee's front office. Diggs once seemed like a prime candidate to be traded – He's a veteran defensive player, getting paid the veteran minimum, who has played really well and has playoff experience.
But with Diggs out for the year, he loses an opportunity to finish the season with a contender and the Titans lose a valuable trade chip. How could that effect their deadline plans?
I highlighted three players that I believe the Titans should consider moving ahead of the NFL trade deadline: OLB Arden Key, OLB Harold Landry III, and WR Tyler Boyd.
We know Tennessee is looking to stock up on some draft picks. Could this give them more incentive to move one of those players listed? Or perhaps losing Diggs from the defense makes Ran Carthon and Co. less comfortable shipping off other defensive playmakers.
"It's all part of the business. The players, they're aware. They understand, they know. I won't address anything unless there's something to address," said Callahan on Monday about the looming deadline. "If we have something to address, then I will. I can't say whether or not there will be or there won't be, but I just know that it's part of the business. It's not a fun part of the business. You just try to be as transparent as you can and let guys know what's happening if there is something that happens."
It undoubtedly complicates things. But the Titans front office needs to do what's best for the organization long term. Diggs or no Diggs, that involves making some moves at the deadline in my opinion.

GM Ran Carthon should trade these Titans players.
