The Titans shouldn't trade for one offensive lineman if an AFC rival makes him available
It’s a trap.
The Tennessee Titans still need help along their offensive line.
One AFC team could be shopping an offensive lineman pretty soon. Jonah Williams, a Cincinnati Bengals OT, has requested a trade. Williams is a former first-round pick, but he hasn't lived up to expectations so far in Cincy.
The Titans don't need to add to their offensive line issues by making any move that is on the table, and that's what they would be doing by giving up compensation for Williams.
Williams has been quite inconsistent so far for the Bengals. Injuries haven't helped that situation, but his performances on the field have been less-than-stellar.
His size may project to an interior offensive lineman position, but most of his reps have come at offensive tackle.
Last season, Williams allowed twelve sacks on Joe Burrow, according to Pro Football Focus.
His best season came in 2021, but that seems like a bit of an outlier. Williams was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Alabama, but his limitations have been clear at the NFL level. The Bengals took him with the eleventh overall pick in 2019.
There's a chance that Williams can turn it around to be a productive OT in the league, but the Titans can't rely on that.
Also, trading for him would cost them draft compensation most likely. Tennessee needs an influx of youthful talent, and they should allow Ran Carthon to have as many shots in the draft as possible.
The first-round OT class looks very impressive, and the Titans are in a prime spot to get one of the best ones.
