Titans trade rumor out of NFL Combine would be doing another team a favor, the same favor Tennessee hopes somebody does for them

The Titans can’t make the same mistake they’re hoping another team makes for them

Amongst the Tennessee Titans top needs this offseason is right guard, and a high-dollar option was made available on Wednesday. It was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that the Los Angeles Rams have given guard Jonah Jackson permission to seek a trade.

Jackson was signed by the Rams to a big money contract just last offseason. He was a Pro Bowler with the Lions, and the Rams gave him a 3yr/$51M contract to help shore up their OL.

He played just 4 games in 2024, however, spending most of the year hurt and benched. He didn’t allow a single sack in four games, but the Rams weren’t satisfied then and clearly aren’t satisfied now.

Nashville News 2’s Cory Curtis reported Wednesday evening that Jackson has the Titans firmly on his radar, per his sources.

Don't Do The Rams This Favor

Trading for Jackson would be a mistake for Tennessee on a couple of fronts. For starters, this isn’t a player I'm particularly excited by. He’s coming off of a failed year, and there’s a reason why the team who just paid him big money is already allowing him to try to move on. He’s been an alright pass protector throughout his career, but I wouldn’t call it a strength.

Yes, the Titans need help at RG. Badly. But Jackson is far from the only solution to that problem. In fact, their primary RG starter this season, Dillon Radunz, is a free agent this spring. given a choice between the two, I’d honestly be more interested in trying to bring him back for a reasonable, middle of the road contract and continue to build up his development, experience and continuity at the position.

If the Titans traded for Jackson, they'd be taking on cap hits and a cash amount of $9M in 2025. in 2026, there's a base salary of $9M and a roster bonus of $8M that he's due.

But secondly and perhaps more importantly, this would be doing the Rams a favor. The Titans should be able to see this quite easily, because they’re in the exact same situation themselves.

It was announced on Wednesday morning the Titans had granted Harold Landry permission to seek a trade as well. You can read about the details of that situation right here. The bottom line is that they’re desperate for a team to trade for Landry and his contract to get something, anything out of a guy they’re going to cut.

This is precisely what the Rams are doing with Jackson. And just like no team should sign up for Landry at his current contract in a trade, the Titans shouldn’t sign up for Jackson at his current number and give away a pick to do so in the process.

If they really would like him, then wait for the Rams to move off of him and bid on him as a free agent. Hopefully the Titans are on Jackson’s radar right now more than the other way around.
