NASHVILLE – As training camp rolls on, the Tennessee Titans are getting ready for their preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers at Nissan Stadium this weekend.
Game day is just around the corner and the Titans' practice at Saint Thomas Sports Park on Wednesday was as close to "game reps" as we have seen during camp thus far. Tennessee spent most of practice in full team period, simulating drives with each offensive unit.
Here are some notes from practice and a recap on the injuries that stacked up as the day went on:
Notes
– Calvin Ridley was the star of the day at Wednesday's practice. Ridley made a number of impressive grabs along the sideline during the team period of practice, often contorting his body to get both feet down through heavy traffic. Ridley's connection with Will Levis continues to grow, the pair connected for an explosive gain of 60+ yards towards the end of practice.
– Levis said after practice that days like Wednesday (where he is consistently connecting with Ridley) are huge for his confidence heading into the regular season.
– Two players recorded an interception during simulated drives in team period. S Shyheim Carter got Will Levis in the red zone off of a deflected pass. LB JoJo Domann got Malik Willis after jumping a route across the middle.
– The running game had a lot of success today. I noted impressive touchdown runs from Tony Pollard, Julius Chestnut, and Hassan Haskins (after a catch) in team period. Jabari Small also did a nice job with his workload.
– Dillon Radunz and Andrew Rupcich both got reps at right guard with the first team offense. With the surprise retirement of Saahdiq Charles, the starting job is back up for grabs. Radunz is currently the favorite.
– Rookie OLB Jaylen Harrell flashed for me once again. Harrell had a sack and a pressure on QB Mason Rudolph on back-to-back plays that stalled an otherwise promising drive from the second-team offense.
– T'Vondre Sweat continues to be as good as advertised. Sweat had a handful of pressures on Levis from the interior defensive line during team period. It appeared like Sweat also got a hand on Levis and forced an errant throw at one point. During 1-on-1s between the defensive line and offensive line, Sweat was virtually unblockable.
Injuries
– Caleb Farley returned to practice after missing a few days with a hamstring issue. But once again, Farley was seen leaving the field early with a trainer and his day was cut short.
– LB Cedric Gray also exited practice early. Gray was present at the beginning of practice but did not participate in full team period.
– Head coach Brian Callahan informed the media before practice that LB Garret Wallow tore his pec and will be out for the entire 2024 season.
– According to Callahan, S Jamal Adams has been out with "soreness." It has now been well over a week since Adams last practiced.
– Following his interception of Malik Willis, LB JoJo Domann was helped off the field by trainers and had his practice cut short. Domann had a serious limp and was not fully putting weight on his leg.
– At the very end of practice, WR Treylon Burks tried to make a one-handed grab. He landed hard on his right leg/hip. Burks limped off the field and held his lower back. While Burks did not look fully comfortable, he rejoined the receivers. He did not have to do any more reps before practice ended just a few moments later.
Tennessee Titans get rocked by surprise retirement of offensive starter
A shocking Titans retirement.
