The Titans just got two steps closer to improving the value of one of their offseason poker chips
Trade conditions are close to being met…
The Tennessee Titans were winners in the eyes of most fans in Week 12, successfully threading the needle of looking promising for the future while still managing to lose. They fell at home 30-24 to the Seattle Seahawks, and Cam Ward played his best game as a pro. His success despite extremely difficult circumstances down the stretch is by far the most important thing for Titans fans to see, but a close second for many is ensuring the Titans have the best possible ammo to build around him this offseason.
That’s the department in which the Titans were quietly winners in as well on Sunday: offseason ammo. While they had their hands full with the Seahawks in Nashville, their final Trade Deadline move of the year got two steps closer to upgrading in Baltimore.
Dre’Mont Jones and the Ravens are close to meeting Titans trade conditions
The Titans’ only trade that actually went down on Trade Deadline day was sending EDGE Dre’Mont Jones to Baltimore for a conditional 5th round pick. The conditions of that trade were revealed to be shockingly achievable: if Baltimore reaches the playoffs and Jones records at least two sacks as a Raven, the fifth turns into a fourth.
Both of those conditions took a step forward in Week 12, with the Ravens winning their fifth straight against the Jets. Jones nearly met his sack condition all one one fell swoop, tallying 1.5 sacks on Tyrod Taylor. He now has six more games to record a half sack, which should be no sweat. He has six sacks in his past seven games.
On the playoff front, the Ravens finished Week 12 atop the AFC North once again. In a little over a month’s time, they’ve gone from fighting for their lives at 1-5, to first place in their division at 6-5. Their competition for the division title is just the Steelers, who are also 6-5. These two teams still have both of their divisional matchups left to play, in Week 14 and then in Week 18. According to FanDuel on Monday, the Ravens are -470 to make the postseason. That’s an implied probability of 82.5%.
Everything is tracking well for the impressive conditions set by Titans GM Mike Borgonzi, and it’s looking like he’ll have one more fourth round pick to play with next spring. He just drafted Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Gunnar Helm in the fourth with his first draft… I wonder what he’ll find next.
