Will Levis was replaced by backup Mason Rudolph in the 1st quarter of Monday Night Football, but it wasn't for poor play.
Levis hurt himself diving for what should have been a 1st down on the Titans second drive of the night. The spot appeared to be obviously short, as the referees marked them down for 4th and 1.
The Titans coaching staff didn't even consider challenging the call or going for it, as they sent the punt team out right away. Perhaps they were preoccupied by their grimacing starting QB jogging to the sideline.
Levis appears to have immediately said "I hurt my shoulder" on the television broadcast.
The Dolphins had to punt the ball back to Tennessee quickly, and the Titans sent backup Mason Rudolph into the game. Levis entered the blue medical tent but emerged after a short stay, continuing to test out his injured throwing shoulder.
Rudolph finished out the 1st half, and head coach Brian Callahan told the sideline reporter of Levis "if he can play, he'll go".
On the first drive out of halftime Rudolph remained the Titans quarterback, indicating it was determined Levis isn't healthy enough to return.
Rudolph finished the game for Tennessee, and Brian Callahan addressed the QB situation at his postgame press conference:
"Yea 100%, when Will's healthy he's our quarterback. It was not a decision based on anything other than his health and protecting him, especially with the bye week."
The Titans take their first win of the year into their early Week 5 Bye and will look to get their QB1 healthy for the first divisional matchup on their calendar in Week 6.
