The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a week into their 2025 training camp, and already players have begun to make names for themselves. That includes draft picks and undrafted rookies alike, who look to carve out roles for themselves as coaches look for their best 53 players by the end of August.

One such new face who’s making a name for himself is Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison. The Bucs’ 2025 second-round pick has gotten some work with the first team unit early in camp, and he’s held his own in that spot.

According to Todd Bowles, Morrison didn’t shy away from the challenge of playing with the top-level players, which is a setting in which Bowles says he looks to evaluate young players.

“We throw a bunch of people in with the ones just to see what they’re doing,” Bowles said. “So, Morrison has learned enough to where he can go in with the ones and not flinch. We want to see, when we throw guys in there, how they respond. Some guys go in the tank, and some guys respond. He responded.”

It’s one of the worst kept secrets in the league that Tampa Bay’s pass defense was an anchor that kept them from realizing their potential in the 2024 season. That shouldn’t be nearly as much the case in 2025 after the team invested significant draft capital at the position. Morrison was taken with the 53rd overall pick, and Jacob Parrish out of Kansas State was tabbed with the 84th overall pick in the third round.

It’s certainly an encouraging start to his professional career for Morrison, but we’ll see soon enough how he looks in live action under the lights in a game setting. The Bucs’ preseason gets underway on Saturday, August 9 at Raymond James Stadium against the Tennessee Titans.
