Commanders’ latest meeting left door wide open for most polarizing prospect in 2026 NFL Draft with No. 7 overall pick
The Commanders will have several meetings at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, but one notable one would give Jayden Daniels a true weapon in the first round.
The offseason is in full swing for the Washington Commanders, and of course, everyone is looking ahead to a critical free agency period, but first, we have the NFL Scouting Combine.
General manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media yesterday, and now it’s time for them to talk to the really important people, the NFL Draft prospects. The Commanders will meet with a large group of players from now until April, but not all of them will be on their radar.
Their first notable meeting of the offseason leaves the door wide open for a popular pick with the No. 7 overall pick.
The Commanders met with RB Jeremiyah Love at the NFL Scouting Combine
Peters and company have a busy week ahead, and they’re getting to know NFL Draft prospects on their board before watching them compete in drills on the field. All of the top options for the Commanders’ No. 7 overall pick will be at the NFL Scouting Combine this week, and all of them will be in Peters’ sights and in their meeting rooms.
The Commanders’ latest meeting at the scouting combine was with Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love, and he will likely be the most polarizing player in the NFL Draft and a top option with the No. 7 overall pick.
Should the Commanders consider RB Jeremiyah Love with the No. 7 overall pick?
A lot of people will argue that running back isn’t a top need for the Commanders, but it certainly is with only Bill Croskey-Merritt under contract for next season. We will find out a lot if the Commanders sign a top RB in free agency or not, but true blue-chip players on the team are a real need, and that’s what Love is.
Many will argue that Love is the best player in the entire NFL Draft, and fans shouldn’t turn down the idea one bit. Imagine passing on a Bijan Robinson-type player for a defensive player who doesn’t pan out? There are no guarantees in the NFL Draft, but Love is one of the most sure prospects this year. Pairing Love with Jayden Daniels would instantly make one of the best duos in the NFL.
Love is already a big fan of Daniels, and recently said he was the coolest person he saw at the Super Bowl, and that he’s a great quarterback.
Love will only be 20 years old when he’s drafted, and easily the most exciting football player in college football last season. Fans should be open to the possibility, and Love will undoubtedly be an option with the No. 7 overall pick if he makes it that far.
The Commanders need to build their core foundation for the future, and their only building blocks are Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Laremy Tunsil, with two being over 30 years old this season. Peters can build the defense in free agency and the rest of the draft, which would allow Love to be a target in the first round.
