This absurd Jayden Daniels stat proves why he’s already a top QB in the league, and also shows the value of Terry McLaurin
This might be the most impressive Jayden Daniels stat yet
We saw in just his rookie season that Jayden Daniels was the franchise quarterback for the Washington Commanders, but we learn a new stat every day that proves he’s even more than that.
Daniels took the league by storm and completed one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history, while making history for the Commanders with an appearance in the NFC Championship game. We saw all of the record-breaking stats, but there’s one that highlights how good he was, and why the Commanders need All-Pro Terry McLaurin.
Daniels put the league on notice with explosive plays
It’s not normal for a rookie QB to come into the league and be considered a top five or six QB in the league, but Jayden Daniels isn’t normal; he’s special. We remember all of the magnified highlight plays from last season, but when you look at the numbers, it’s crazy to think about what he was able to do.
Daniels ended the season with six completions of 50+ yards, which was second in the league behind only Jared Goff. That’s more than Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson.
The big-time plays accounted for 11.9% of Daniels’ 3,568 passing yards in his Rookie of the Year campaign. That’s insane to think about coming from a rookie in a new offense, new weapons, and not the best offensive line or run game. He only had one real big-play threat that accounted for a majority of the plays, and it’s even more of a reason why the Commanders need to figure this ongoing situation out.
One player helped make it happen
All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has been the one big-play threat for the Commanders since he came into the league, and he just needed a QB to make it happen consistently. Out of the six completions of over 50 yards by Daniels, McLaurin was responsible for a whopping 75.8% of those. The connection between Daniels and McLaurin was unbreakable, and even more of a reason to pay McLaurin for the long haul.
We have yet to see where Daniels ranks in the NFL’s top-100 list, but with the season he had last year and stats like this, he might crack the highest ranking by a rookie QB ever. All eyes will be on Daniels going into his sophomore season in the league, and we all hope McLaurin is there to create more magic with the superstar QB.
