Adam Peters couldn’t hide his admiration for top NFL Draft prospect who should be high on their list at No. 7 overall
The Commanders will strongly consider taking one player that Adam Peters likes if he falls to them in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The 2026 NFL Draft is just over three weeks away, and the Washington Commanders will have a tough decision to make when they’re on the clock at No. 7 overall.
Nobody knows how the board will fall with the six picks before the Commanders, but there’s no doubt that there will be top talent available for them to pick from. They might even luck out and land one prospect who general manager Adam Peters is very high on, and he made that known.
Adam Peters is really high on LB Sonny Styles
The Commanders had the full crew at the Ohio State Buckeyes’ Pro Day last week, where they watched the majority of their first-round options make one last impression on the field. After the Pro Day, we heard LB Sonny Styles tell Kay Adams on the Up and Adams Show that he has a top-30 visit coming up with the Commanders.
Washington clearly likes Styles, as do many other teams, but Peters talked very highly of Styles on the Up and Adams Show at the NFL Annual League Meeting in Arizona.
“He’s outstanding,” Peters said. “I mean, we went to their pro day last week, and they had four guys that are probably gonna be picked in the top 10. That place is a factory, and they got great coaches, and the players are really well coached, and they’re really good. Sonny fits into that category. He’s big, he’s long, he’s fast, he’s athletic, he’s really smart, and he’s a great leader. So he’s a really good player.”
“I mean, just that he gets those guys lined up,” Peters added. “All the players on the team revere him. They talk about his leadership, his abilities, and his football IQ; the coaches do so. I mean, if you talk to anybody there, he’s going to be a team captain guy for 10 years.”
The Commanders need to consider Sonny Styles if he falls to No. 7 overall
We saw the Commanders add LB Leo Chenal in free agency, and Frankie Luvu will have a bounce-back season as well, but Styles could be the LB of the future with Chenal. Styles would give the Commanders the best LB group they’ve had in a long time. Chenal will be used a ton off the EDGE, and Styles can do it all in the second level.
Styles is an athletic freak at 6-5, 244 pounds, who ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and finished with a 9.99 Relative Athletic Score. He would be a perfect fit for Daronte Jones’ defensive scheme, and he’s arguably a top-5 player in the NFL Draft. Styles only missed two tackles on the entire season, which didn’t happen until the postseason.
The Commanders seem very high on Styles, and he could very well be the pick over some other top talent if he falls to the No. 7 overall pick.
