Jayden Daniels is officially the face of the Washington Commanders franchise.
It was a pick that many saw coming, but now, all of that is in the past. All that matters, moving forward, is how Daniels can hit the ground running and reach his extremely high ceiling.
The one-and-only, six-time Super Bowl champ (as a head coach) Bill Belichick offered his thoughts on how Daniels can do just that during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
"I think that Jayden has a good opportunity to be an outstanding player and he showed that this year -he won the Heisman Trophy and he had a lot of great plays," Belichick told Pat McAfee. "I think, for him, a lot of his throws come outside the numbers [and] he's very fast, he's an excellent runner and scrambler. I think he's going to have to learn to stay in the pocket and read coverages and throw the ball, but he's capable of doing that."
Belichick is right. If Daniels can improve his pocket play, then he'll become a yearly threat to win the NFL MVP award and he'll also make the Commanders yearly playoff contenders. Despite living outside the numbers, he's shown he can make the middle-of-the-field throws and he's also shown that he has both the vision and instincts to go through his reads and progressions in the right manner. He just has to do it on a more consistent basis.
But with a solid set of weapons around him that also doesn't even include the potential Daytime 2 additions that are sure to come, Daniels is entering an environment that allows the needed growth to happen.
