We are just a couple of days away from the NFL's 2025 schedule release and while the Washington Commanders were denied what would've been an exciting season-opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, I think the NFL has something almost as big in store for them in Week 1.

So, let's not waste any more time and dive into some super-speculative prognostication.

1. Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams will face off against one another on Sunday Night Football in Week 1

Sure, the first 59:54 of the Commanders-Bears 2024 matchup was pretty much a snoozer all the way through. Those final six seconds, however, gave the NFL one of its most exciting finishes it's seen in a while.

It's wild how the Commanders ascended from that point on and the Bears just spiraled out of control. It seems like Chicago has corrected course, however, and is poised for a big year under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.

The hype is well worth it, too. Considering how much the arrow is pointing up for both teams, why not have them face off in primetime in Week 1? A Sunday Night matchup -just like last year- makes all the sense in the world.

We'll see if the NFL can make up for its lackluster decision in taking the Dallas Cowboys over the Commanders. A home matchup, in primetime, against what should be an upstart Bears team is a huge step toward doing so.

2. The Commanders will match a franchise-record in primetime games

Not only are the Commanders one of the league's current darlings, but the franchise also has one of the biggest, deepest fanbases. It's spread out across the United States, as well, making it one of the NFL's largest markets.

This is one of the hottest teams in the NFL and it draws ratings, so you better believe Roger Goodell and Co. are going to try and milk every bit they can. Especially with Dan Snyder and the reputation that followed him out of the picture.

We know Washington will receive a Thursday Night game and then there's the heavily-rumored Madrid game against the Dolphins, which are actually one of the lesser-heralded opponents on the Commanders' 2025 schedule.

So, with those two games basically locked up, that leaves the Commanders with just three more primetime contests to match their franchise-high of five. With all the momentum and opponents like the Cowboys and Eagles (even Giants), where the league has two games each to choose from, and then the aforementioned Bears alongside the Lions, Packers, Chiefs, Rams, and Broncos – it's easy to see why Washington will be in the spotlight quite often.

3. The bye week will happen before Week 10

I'm a big believer in balance, so why not throw in a prediction that Dan Quinn and the rest of his squad will love to read after going through a 2024 season that made them wait until Week 14 before they got a break.

Quinn and Co. didn't shy away from how much they needed the bye once it finally rolled around and it showed through the rest of the season, as Washington didn't lose a game before its season ended in the NFC Championship Game.

This year, the NFL will go a bit easier on them after paying their dues last year. While you don't want the bye week to come too early, Quinn and Co. will get some "sweet spot" treatment after an completing their arduous task in 2024.
