The Commanders’ 2026 NFL Draft pick position took a major boost after hard fought loss to Broncos and Week 13 results
The Commanders are still in position for a top-5 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Washington Commanders showed a lot of heart and fight for the first time against a quality opponent, but came up just short of beating the Denver Broncos.
Seeing both sides of the team playing complementary football is exactly what’s been missing all season, but the Commanders still fall to 3-9 with five more games left to play. With Terry McLaurin’s return and possibly Jayden Daniels coming back soon, this team is capable of winning another game or two down the stretch.
For the time being, though, the Commanders are just outside of a top-5 pick, and their odds of landing there are higher than you think after the New York Jets won on Sunday.
The Commanders currently have the 6th overall pick after their latest loss
This team will continue to fight down the final stretch, but they’re still projected to keep losing in the final five games and land a top draft pick. After losing to the Broncos, the Commanders are 3-9 and have one over the lower strength of schedules, giving them an advantage and the sixth overall pick.

The Jets beat the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, which gave the Commanders the extra jump in the draft order. The Commanders’ SOS is .512, so they’re behind the Cleveland Browns, who have a .483 SOS, and also puts them ahead of the Jets. A lot can happen over the next five weeks with the Commanders facing the Minnesota Vikings, the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Philadelphia Eagles twice. Believe it or not, even with the team looking better over the last two weeks, they still have high odds to land a top-5 pick.
The Commanders have a high chance at a top-5 pick
We need to see this team continue to fight to end the season on a high note, but having momentum and something to look forward to next season will go a long way as well. Having a top-5 pick will give general manager Adam Peters a lot of power in the offseason. The roster needs a lot of help, and the Commanders only have six picks for the 2026 NFL Draft.
As it stands heading into Week 14, the Commanders have a 41.2% chance of landing a top-5 pick, which is just behind the Giants, who they play in two weeks.

The Commanders could take a top talent in the draft, like Arvell Reese, Caleb Downs, or Jordyn Tyson, or they could trade back and collect more draft capital and still have a high enough pick in the first round.
