Commanders 7-Round 2026 NFL Mock Draft: Washington makes controversial selection to build around Jayden Daniels

The Commanders make the most of their six picks in the 2026 NFL Draft by adding a weapon for Jayden Daniels following an active free agency period.

The NFL offseason is full steam ahead, with free agency a week away, and then the focus turns to the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Washington Commanders are expected to be active in free agency, which bodes well for their roster and for the fact that they have only six draft picks. If the Commanders approach free agency correctly and fill out their biggest needs, they can take the best player in the draft with the No. 7 overall pick.

That’s exactly what I did in my latest Commanders 7-round 2026 NFL mock draft following the NFL scouting combine.

Commanders 7-Round 2026 NFL Mock Draft

Round 1, Pick 7: Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame

People will hate taking a running back with the No. 7 overall pick, but Jeremiyah Love is arguably the best player in the NFL Draft. The Commanders only have Bill Croskey-Merritt under contract in the RB room before free agency, and the right moves to fix the defense can set them up to take Love.

Love said he met with the Commanders at the scouting combine, and he would love to be in the backfield with Jayden Daniels. The Commanders need blue-chip talent, regardless of position. He had 39 explosive runs last season and forced 56 missed tackles on his way to 1,317 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground.

Round 3, Pick 71: Derrick Moore, EDGE, Michigan

The Commanders are expected to target EDGE players in free agency, but don’t be surprised if they double down this offseason. If they add someone like Boye Mafe in free agency, they could pass on one with the No. 7 overall pick, and land another stuf in Derrick Moore at pick No. 71 overall.

Moore is a lengthy EDGE rusher at 6-4, 255 pounds with 33 3/8″ arm length. His speed and power pop on film, and he finished 2025 with 10 sacks and 41 pressures. He’s a stout run stopper and finished with a 19.8% pass-rush win rate. Moore is an underrated prospect who would fit in perfectly with the Commanders.

Round 5, Pick 145: Cyrus Allen, WR, Cincinnati

This isn’t the first time I’ve mocked WR Cyrus Allen to the Commanders, and it won’t be the last either. The Commanders need a top slot WR in their offense under David Blough, and Allen could be the best fit. There aren’t many options in free agency, so look for value in the NFL Draft.

Allen is 5-11, 180 pounds, and he’s as reliable as it comes, with just one drop on 69 targets last season. He can stretch the field vertically, and he’s an elite route runner and separator. Allen finished with 12 receiving touchdowns, which was fourth in the county, and he looks to be very productive at the next level.

Round 6, Pick 186: Beau Stephens, OL, Iowa

The Commanders are likely to lose starting left guard Chris Paul in free agency with a bigger market than expected. Brandon Coleman is his obvious replacement, but the Commanders need depth and another answer, which is why Beau Stephens would be a homerun pick at No. 186 overall.

Stephens is 6-5, 315 pounds, and your typical Iowa offensive lineman. He was an elite pass blocker in 2025 with zero sacks allowed and just four pressures on 304 pass-blocking snaps. Stephens hasn’t allowed a sack in his last three seasons and would be a great filler at left guard, despite his lack of arm length at just 31 1/8″ arms.

Round 6, Pick 197: Ephesians Prysock, CB, Washington

The Commanders need help in the secondary, and Ephesians Prysock fits what they’re looking for on defense. He’s a freak athlete at 6-3, 196 pounds with a 33.1″ arm length. Prysock ran a 4.45 40-yard dash and finished with a 9.9 Relative Athletic Score. We know that Adam Peters loves his athletes in the draft, and Prysock can play, too.

Prysock is a physical run stopper, and he can play everywhere on defense, from outside corner to safety and in the box. Daronte Jones loves experienced corners, and Prysock has over 2,500 career snaps under his belt.

Round 7, Pick 223: Jakobe Thomas, S, Miami

Dan Quinn and Jones both said they want fast and physical, and that fits Miami safety Jakobe Thomas perfectly. The Commanders need a tone setter in the secondary, and their safety room has a lot of bodies, but not much quality. Thomas is 6-2, 200 pounds, and he’s a downhill thumper in the run game, while being extremely versatile.

Jones also said versatility is key, and Thomas will be on his list if that’s the case. He played 283 snaps in the box, 354 snaps deep, and even played slot corner. He struggles with missed tackles, but Jones can mold him into a high-end player in the secondary.
