The Washington Commanders practiced for the final time on Saturday as they prepare for the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

The extra day should be helping the team get healthy before the game, but that hasn’t been the case so far, and actually, the opposite. The Commanders don’t know who will be playing at wide receiver on offense Monday night, but they do know who is out, and one player will be a last-minute decision.

Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown are OUT

Things have been trending in a positive direction, but it wasn’t enough for wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown. McLaurin hasn’t practiced this week, let alone at all, since his quad/hip injury against the Las Vegas Raiders, so it was very unlikely he would play, and now he’s officially out. Brown, however, has been limited and actually practiced on the field, but he is still out once again.

Head coach Dan Quinn addressed the health status of McLaurin and Brown, and was asked if he was surprised by how long it’s lasted.

“So Terry and Noah will be out, Quinn said Both of them made great progress this week. They’re just not there yet, but have definitely made good progress. As far as the rest of the team, we’ll take it into Monday for anybody that we need to adjust and go through that with call-ups, etc, injuries in that way. He [McLaurin] did have a good week. The individual work to go, he’s just not there yet. But you know, for him, it’s nice to see, you know, him back on the field, and then to practice and get reps in that stuff. So just not quite yet, but he’s putting in really good work.”

Both McLaurin and Brown are starting to become a problem with injuries this season. McLaurin missed three games in a row now and should be back against the Dallas Cowboys. Brown is now on his fourth game missed, and I’m starting to wonder if he can actually stay healthy enough to make it through the season. One big question that remains is whether Deebo Samuel will play on Monday night.

Deebo Samuel’s injury lingers

Samuel has been dealing with a bruised heel since last week, and he played through it against the Los Angeles Chargers and had his best game of the season. This week, however, Samuel didn’t practice on Thursday and was limited on Friday. Quinn’s comments about his injury left his status for Monday up in the air.

“He bruised his heel, and it could be painful to go,” Quinn said. “But usually it’ll turn eventually, and let’s manage it best we can. But I’m not, you know, thinking it’s in the managing for the season, just sometimes he’s got to manage day to day.”

Quinn said his status will be given on Monday with the rest of the Commanders’ injuries, and not having the top three wide receivers would be a massive loss. We will hear if the team makes any other transactions before the game to elevate players from the practice squad.
