Okay, hear me out: The Draft Day movie but replace Kevin Costner with Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters.
That's what the team essentially released in its latest episode of internet series "Commanders Log," which is published on the team's official YouTube Channel.
A behind-the-scenes of the 2024 NFL Draft shows Peters working the phones with one of the most prolific traders in the entire league: GM Howie Roseman. In the video, which you can see below, the two division rivals exchange phone calls as they work out a Day 2 trade that ended up being huge for both franchises.
The terms of the deal ended up being the Commanders getting No. 50, 53 and 161 picks from the Eagles in exchange for No. 40, 78 and 152. But it took Peters being immovable in negotiations with Roseman, who Peters had to shoot down multiple times.
"No," Peters bluntly tells Roseman on the phone. "Alright, bye-bye."
Roseman later calls Peters back, who stays firm and neglects another apparent couple of offers before telling the Eagles GM "otherwise, we'll pick, dude." Roseman then insists, Peters shoots him down, again and confidently turns to the rest of the war room and claims "Yeah, I think he's going to do it."
Seconds later, Roseman calls him back and accepts, with Peters delivering an honest line to his rival: "You're a pain in the ass."
Listen, would this make for quality cinema? I don't know. Hollywood does need the Bo Callahan and Vontae Mack-esque drama. But watching Peters work the phones will make Commanders fans love the new man in charge.
Ultimately, the bets he's making will be what shapes fans' opinions of him, including hiring Dan Quinn as head coach and choosing Jayden Daniels to quarterback the team. In the meantime, it's hard not to be all in on the dude.
The Commanders are doing things the right way and the way Peters is running the show is simply another example of it.
