The NFL Combine is easily one of the league's biggest events of the year and it's the perfect milieu for news, testing numbers, medical information, and even misdirection.
One of the more important aspects of the week is prospect interview. There are formal and informal interviews – the latter representing what needs to be paid attention to, most. Formal interviews are more of a custom and are something all teams take part in with the overwhelming majority of prospects, whereas informals are more dialed-in and "selective", so to speak, when it comes to interviewees.
There are also top-30 visits to keep up, with as well. These are some of the biggest breadcrumbs to pay attention to during draft season.
With all that being said, it can hard keeping up with all the interviews and if they're formal/informal, so I figured it'd be a good idea to round everything up into one nice, tidy tracker post for everyone to keep up with.
Below are the players the Washington Commanders spoke with during the NFL Combine.
Commanders' formal interviews during the 2024 NFL Combine
Quarterback
- LSU QB Jayden Daniels – 2023's Heisman winner, The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler reported the Commanders will meet with Daniels on Wednesday, February 28. Daniels is a dual-threat quarterback that threw for over 3,800 yards, along with 40 touchdowns, while rushing for over 1,100 yards and adding 10 rushing TDs last year.
- USC QB Caleb Williams – Many consider Williams to be the top overall prospect in the draft and there's good reason why. It'll be a surprise if he is anything but the first overall pick.
- UNC QB Drake Maye– As expected, the Commanders are talking to the all of the top QBs at the combine. If Maye doesn't go No. 1 overall, many expect the Commanders to take him at No. 2.
- Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. – Penix Jr. was a Hesiman finalist after throwing for more than 4,900 yards and tossing 36 TDs to 11 INTs. Penix Jr.'s medicals will be key, as he's suffered serious injuries over the course of his career.
- Michigan J.J. McCarthy – The college champion is the classic case of a prospect picking up momentum at the right time. More and more reports are surfacing about NFL teams and their intrigue in McCarthy.
Running back
- Texas RB Jonathan Brooks – The former Longhorn already had an 1,100 yard season in the bag before tearing his ACL against TCU in mid-November. Explosive and physical, Brooks said he should be ready to go by July 1, which obviously is plenty of time before training camp.
EDGE
- Missouri EDGE Darius Robinson – Per The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler, Robinson has a formal interview scheduled for Thursday, February 29. Robinson recorded 8.5 sacks and 14.0 tackles for loss, last year, and recorded 13.0 total sacks and 21.0 TFLs during his five years in CoMo.
