It's been only a couple of days since Dan Quinn reportedly agreed to be head coach of the Washington Commanders and he's already making moves that are shaking up the NFL world.

On Thursday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported the Las Vegas Raiders were hiring Kliff Kingsbury to run the offense on head coach Antonio Pierce's squad. Fast forward to Saturday, and Quinn is in a position to steal Kingsbury away for his own staff.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kingsbury is the leading candidate to be offensive coordinator for the Commanders with him having "withdrawn himself from consideration" for the Raiders gig.

It was a contractual hang-up that kept Kingsbury from heading to the AFC West and it seems Josh Harris' ownership group is ready to swoop in and secure the renowned offensive mind.

Although things didn't work out for Kingsbury as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, his work in Texas A&M and Texas Tech as play-caller speaks for itself. More recently, he spent time with the USC Trojans as Senior Offensive Analyst.

Landing Kingsbury would be a huge deal for the Commanders

A lot has been made about whether or not going with a defensive mind at head coach would be a smart move in Washington. After all, if a rebuild is to truly work, the franchise needs a solid quarterback.

The Commanders own the second overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft and are in position to select one of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels, all of whom are considered very good QB prospects.

There's obviously a relationship between Williams and Kingsbury from USC's last season. Perhaps hiring Kingsbury would make it a bit more likely for the top quarterback of the class to land in Washington?

Even if it's somebody else, Kingsbury has worked some magic with a group of quarterbacks including Johnny Manziel and Patrick Mahomes. Whoever ends up in Washington could seriously benefit from Kingsbury's presence on the staff and could move the needle on how the Quinn hire is perceived in 2024 and beyond.
