The Washington Commanders are getting ready to kick off for the primetime rematch against the Chicago Bears. Heading into the matchup, there have been many storylines about injuries and who will actually play for the Commanders.

We found out later in the week that wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown would be out for another game, leaving the workload to Deebo Samuel, Luke McCaffrey, and Jaylin Lane again.

Samuel, however, had his own injury worth monitoring, and the Commanders finally received some positive news on his game status hours before kickoff.

Deebo Samuel will play vs the Bears

Samuel’s status for Monday night was uncertain after head coach Dan Quinn said they would take every day possible to evaluate his injury. They ruled out McLaurin and Brown early, so it seemed like Samuel had a real chance to play. Quinn called it a bruised heel and said they could be tricky, but it’ll eventually heal up.

Samuel was also listed on the injury report last week with the same issue, but he played and had his best game yet. Daniels will need the same on Monday night against the Bears in a game that could be an offensive shootout. The Commanders are calling up more help from the practice squad with the empty spots left from McLaurin and Brown, including one rookie making his debut.

Ja’Corey Brooks is making his regular-season debut

The Commanders have elevated Ja’Corey Brooks and Tay Martin to provide a boost on offense. This is the first time we’ve seen Brooks since the preseason, but he had a lot of hype behind him in training camp. Brooks has big-play ability, and the Commanders need more depth to step up in the wide receiver room.

Hitting on an undrafted rookie is the kind of win the Commanders need on the roster, and maybe he can make plays against the Bears if his name gets called.

Sam Cosmi is not ready yet

Another name that was a game-time decision this week was right guard Sam Cosmi, who was looking to make his season debut. Cosmi has been recovering from the torn ACL he suffered in the playoffs last season, and he’s been making great progress. He was ruled out before the game and isn’t quite ready yet, but he’s fully expected to play against the Dallas Cowboys next week.
