As owners of the second overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders will be one of the most exciting teams in April.
A new era at quarterback peeks its head in the horizon and the front office will be able to follow it with four other picks within the Top 101 and you've got yourself an enticing future. Paired with a new, strong coaching staff, it's a good time to be a Commanders fan.
But I've got to say, if A to Z Sports' own Travis May gets his way, way-too-early 2025 NFL mock draft right, it will be hard to not fully buy into the Commanders.
In his latest mock, Mays went full Nostradamus as he looked beyond 2024 and into next year's Draft and predicted the Commanders selecting one of the most exciting prospects of all-time: Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter.
Below is a breakdown of May's pick for Washington:
It's perfectly fitting that we haven't quite seen an NFL prospect like Travis Hunter since Deion Sanders. This former top overall player in the 2022 recruiting class could seriously play both cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL. However, with coverage and movement skills like on this interception against TCU early last year he likely plays mostly defensive back.
Hunter was once the No. 1 recruit of the nation and flipped from Florida State to Jackson State, buying into the vision of Sanders, who was head coach of the latter then. Nowadays, both are the biggest faces of Colorado football, with Hunter genuinely being a two-way player.
When Colorado shocked the football world by taking down TCU in Week 1 of the 2023 season, Hunter played an insane 139 snaps, alternating between playing cornerback and wide receiver. His production was otherworldly, accumulating 119 yards on 11 catches, 3 tackles, and an interception.
With the right coaching, Hunter could absolutely be a two-way player in the NFL, but chances are most of his damage will be dealt on defense, where he plays his best football. Dan Quinn is known to love hybrids on defense and loves man coverage. This could be one of the best landing spots for Hunter.
Obviously, it's only an extremely early mock draft but daydreaming about a guy many consider to be a potential "next Deion Sanders" never hurt anyone, did it?
Joe Whitt Jr.’s mindset will play a major role in turning the Washington Commanders defense around
This dude knows what’s up.
