Commanders are leaving door wide open on surprising NFL Draft night move after latest top-30 visit
The Commanders are exploring all options with their latest top-30 visit being a prospect projected to go later in the first round.
The 2026 NFL Draft is less than a month away, and the Washington Commanders are prepared for any situation when they’re on the clock.
We’ve seen them meet with top prospects who could be there with the No. 7 overall pick, but also players who could be there later in the draft. Lately, however, there’s been a shift with a handful of top-30 visits with prospects who could be selected later in the first round. The latest top-30 visit is with a WR who could leave the door open to a trade back in the first round.
The Commanders host a top-30 visit with WR Denzel Boston
The Commanders have top-30 visits with top WRs, including Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon, but we haven’t seen them meet with any others who are considered to go after No. 7 overall, until now. We can add Denzel Boston to the list, which tells me they are prepared for anything on draft night, including a possible trade back in the first round.
Boston is WR4 on my board behind Tate, Lemon, and Jordyn Tyson, and he would be a great get in the second half of the first round if they’re able to collect more picks in a trade package. Should the Commanders consider a trade back, though, and pass on one of the clear top WRs? It depends on how high you are on Boston as a prospect.
Denzel Boston is an underrated WR prospect
Boston is projected to go in the late first round, but I can see him going anywhere from No. 15 to No. 20 overall with his skill set. He has the best size of any WR in this NFL Draft class at 6-4, 210 pounds, but he’s much more than that. Yes, he can get up and high-point any pass, and he dominates with his athletic ability, but his routes need more appreciation.
Boston can also run crisp routes, has naturally strong hands, and has way better movement than expected at his size. He doesn’t just run straight routes; he plays stronger than everyone else and creates separation with his suddenness.
He finished with just two drops on 95 targets, and brought in 62 catches for 881 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final season. Boston is a big-play threat with a 14.2 yards per catch average. He also had 10 contested catches in 2025 and a contested catch win rate of 76.9%.
Don’t sleep on Boston as one of the next great WRs in the NFL, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he outproduces some of the prospects taken before him.
