The Washington Commanders are starting the short week of preparation before they hit the road to take on the Dallas Cowboys, and they need to bounce back.

A major factor with the short week is getting the rest and recovery needed, while still practicing and avoiding another slow start on the road. The Commanders have been waiting on the return of some key players, including Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown, and the first update isn’t good for one of them.

Noah Brown has been placed on IR

The story of Brown’s injuries continues, and the team has finally decided to place him on IR, which will have him out for another four games at a minimum, after his groin injury “didn’t respond well”, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Brown just can’t stay healthy, and the team really can’t expect to see him anytime soon, even after those first four weeks. This makes a lot of sense as to why the Commanders are hosting wide receiver Treylon Burks on Wednesday. It’s unfortunate not to have a player who was expected to be WR3 on the team this season, but Luke McCaffrey has emerged in his absence.

On a more positive note, however, McLaurin is expected to come back to practice this week, which would be a major boost for the offense.

Terry McLaurin will practice this week

The offense has been without McLaurin for the last three games, and his start has been beyond disappointing after getting his long-term extension, so now it’s time for him to return and contribute. Quinn says that McLaurin will be back this week, but we don’t have an exact update on how much he will practice. Wednesday will be a light practice, so Thursday and Friday will give more of an idea of his game status for Sunday.

Jayden Daniels has been carrying the load over the last two weeks, especially with the defensive woes, and he needs his top option back. Deebo Samuel has done a great job as the top weapon, but the offense can hit its potential if the Daniels and McLaurin connection returns. Another positive update is that the defense could be getting back a key piece in the next few weeks to fix some secondary issues.

Jonathan Jones’ 21-day window opened

Cornerback Jonathan Jones has been on the IR with a hamstring injury, and he’s finally getting his 21-day window opened to return to practice. The secondary has been rough to say the least this season, and the team might need to make some changes when he comes back to see if it fixes anything.

There are many other injuries to watch this week, including Dorance Armstrong’s hamstring, but we won’t have updates until Thursday and Friday.
