As expected, Ford Field was hyped up before the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions kicked off on Saturday night.
And for good reason. Detroit was a big-time favorite and coming off a historical season, both team- and league-wise. The Lions were also pegged by many to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl and even win it.
Well, those expectations took a left turn as the Commanders took control of the game in the fourth quarter. It was a competitive game for a good portion, but Jared Goff's fourth turnover of the night led to a 17-point deficit with under 10 minutes left in the game that basically sealed the deal.
Lions fans saw the writing on the wall and started leaving Ford Field around the 7:30 mark in the fourth quarter, per the Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala:
Detroit proceeded to cut the lead to 14 a couple of minutes after and the Commanders are about to get the ball back with less than five minutes left in the game. The Lions haven't been able to stop Jayden Daniels and Co. for the vast majority of the night, so we'll see if the likely Offensive Rookie of the Year can close out another playoff upset.
