Commanders make first stunning offseason move, and it creates a massive hole this offseason with no real answer
The Commanders make a shocking move that will drastically impact QB Jayden Daniels next season, and they can’t get this move wrong.
The Washington Commanders have a lot of work to do this offseason with a critical 2026 season ahead and a lot of new changes.
The coaching staff received an overhaul this offseason, and now it’s time to work on the roster. The Commanders have 31 pending free agents, and a lot of glaring roster needs to fix in free agency and the NFL Draft. Expect general manager Adam Peters to make some big moves in the upcoming weeks, but nobody saw this next move coming.
The Commanders announced they have released starting center Tyler Biadasz, and there’s no real answer as to why and who the replacement will be, and that’s concerning.
The Commanders announced they released starting center Tyler Biadasz
There’s a long list of needs for the Commanders, and you can add a starting center after a shocking release of Biadasz that I’m still very confused by. He’s only 28 years old, and he’s been a very solid center for Daniels and the Commanders.
The only reason I can think of for releasing Biadasz is because of the injury he suffered against the Dallas Cowboys back in Week 17. Maybe the injury ended up being much worse than expected. If that’s not the case, then I’m even more concerned. We aren’t sure if this is a pre-June 1st or post-June 1st release, which makes a big diference money wise.
A pre-June 1st cut saves only $2.8 million with an $8.1 million dead cap hit, while a post-June 1st release saves $8.28 million in 2026 and takes a dead cap hit of just $2.7 million. My understanding is that teams can designate a post-June 1st release before the new league year, but the salary cap savings don’t hit until June 2nd, which is fine since the Commanders have a top-5 salary cap space in the NFL.

Regardless of the money situation, the Commanders need to find a new starting center, especially with Jayden Daniels going under center more often for the first time in his career.
Who the Commanders could potentially pursue at center this offseason
The biggest center this offseason will be Baltimore Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, but he’s very unlikely to hit the market as the top free agent.
The Ravens have been working on a deal to keep him in place, and they can still place a franchise tag on him. Even if Linderbaum leaves the Ravens, he’s a heavy favorite to reunite with John Harbaugh in New York.
This is a very weak center draft class, and none pop out as a starter in my opinion, so they have to look to free agency. There are a few underrated names expected to hit the market, and others could join with more surprise cuts around the league over the next few weeks.
