The Washington Commanders are 4-10, but still have three more games left in the season before we get into an important offseason for general manager Adam Peters.

Looking ahead, the Commanders need to make some serious moves to revamp a struggling roster to become contenders again. The defense needs a lot of help, but Jayden Daniels needs more support and consistency on offense as well. Daniels was shut down for the rest of the season, and now the clock starts clicking for the Commanders to build around him before his return.

There will be plenty of options in free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft, and possibly one former teammate who looks like he wants to play with Daniels again.

Rachaad White posts clips with Jayden Daniels on Instagram stories

Brandon Aiyuk isn’t the only former Arizona State Sun Devil who likely wants to play with Daniels again, as Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad Whit posted not one, but two clips of Daniels on his Instagram stories over the last few days.

Could it just be support for his former college quarterback, who has gone through a lot this season? Sure, but he’s also a free agent this offseason, and the Commanders still need a lead running back. White is doubtful to return to the Buccaneers since they have Bucky Irving, and teams usually don’t pay running backs to stay.

Should the Commanders target Rachaad White in free agency?

The Commanders have a deep running back room, but it’s still missing that one true lead back that can do it all on every down. There will be plenty of targets in free agency, and they could be tempted to draft Jeremiyah Love in the first round, too. White is projected to earn around $7.7 million per year under his new contract, which is reasonable given his production.

What would Rachaad White bring to the offense?

Before the Buccaneers drafted Irving, White had 990 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2023, and added another 549 yards in the receiving game. White is a complete back who can do it all and brings a lot of production. The 2025 season isn’t over yet, but White will likely finish with an average of 1,000 all-purpose yards over the last two seasons, with Irving getting the majority of the workload.

White would fit the offense, with the team likely moving on from Austin Ekeler after the season, as a running back who can handle a large workload, but also be a significant piece in the receiving game. The Commanders missed that aspect of the offense when Ekeler was injured in Week 2.

The Commanders have some solid players in the running back room with Bill Croskey-Merritt and Chris Rodriguez, but adding White would be the finishing touch for more explosive plays and a high-end receiving back. Daniels might be reunited with not just one, but two former college teammates, with the Commanders potentially targeting White as a free agent.
