The 2024 NFL Draft is under two months away and the Washington Commanders officially know where they are picking in all seven rounds.

The NFL released its compensatory selections on Thursday, which paved the way for Friday's official release. The Commanders have nine total picks that include six selections in the first three rounds/100 picks, thanks to the decisions to trade defensive end, Montez Sweat, to the Chicago Bears and defensive end, Chase Young, to the San Francisco 49ers. Sweat netted the 40th overall pick in the second round, while Young gave Washington the 100th overall pick in the third round.

The NFL also adjusted the draft order after pick No. 96, awarding pick No. 97, a compensatory selection, to the Cincinnati Bengals after initially denying them the pick. Everything from pick No. 97-on has been moved back one selection.

**Update: The Commanders traded Sam Howell on Thursday, March 14, to the Seattle Seahawks. Washington receives the No. 78 overall pick (third round) and the No. 152 overall pick (fifth) round. Seattle receives Howell, Washington's fourth-round pick (No. 102 overall) and sixth-round pick (No. 179 overall).**

Commanders' official picks in the 2024 NFL Draft

  • Round 1: No. 2 overall
  • Round 2: No. 36 overall
  • Round 2: No. 40 overall (from CHI)
  • Round 3: No. 67 overall
  • Round 3: No. 78 overall
  • Round 3: No. 100 overall (from SF/comp pick)
  • Round 5: No. 139 overall
  • Round 5: No. 152 overall
  • Round 7: No. 222 overall

The Commanders have to make these picks hit or else it's all for naught

Even though it's as fresh a start as an NFL franchise can receive, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters are under a lot of pressure. Washington has a ton of resources that could easily build a championship-caliber infrastructure, but it means nothing if the moves don't work.

The duo has every chance in the world to get this right. Only time will tell if it happens.
