The Commanders’ biggest offseason mistake took one final hit, and Adam Peters can’t let it happen again for Jayden Daniels’ sake
The Commanders placed WR Noah Brown on IR to end his season, and Jayden Daniels needs more reliable weapons.
The Washington Commanders’ season has been a nightmare, and it honestly started well before they went 4-10 in the regular season.
General manager Adam Peters had a heavily criticized offseason that ended up being the worst outcome for the team’s success. Just one year after making it to the NFC Championship game, the Commanders are now scrambling to find any kind of hope on the roster.
It’s also been a rough season for quarterback Jayden Daniels. His injuries haven’t helped, and the top wide receivers on the team missing most of the offseason and regular season didn’t help either.
One of the biggest misses by Peters was ignoring the early signs of the wide receiver room being without Noah Brown, who just had his season officially ended.
Commanders place WR Noah Brown on IR
It’s been a season to forget for Brown, and the move to IR officially ends his year and possible time with the Commanders. He made a comeback against the New York Giants last week, but left the game early with another injury that he just couldn’t get away from this year. Brown ends the 2025 season with just five catches in parts of four games.
Brown has been dealing with injuries since last season, which should have been a sign, but the injury in mini camp and training camp should’ve been a red flag for Peters. He missed the majority of training camp, which didn’t help Daniels, especially since Terry McLaurin was holding out for his new contract.
The injuries adding up should’ve alerted Peters to make a move at wide receiver during the offseason, instead of relying on Brown to come back as a starter with Deebo Samuel and McLaurin. Bringing him back is fine, but needing him to stay healthy for the whole season was never going to happen, and Peters needs to learn from his mistake.
Adam Peters has to add playmakers this offseason
It is very unlikely that Brown will be back, and I’d even add Samuel to that list as well. Peters needs to add more playmakers for Daniels in a very critical 2026 offseason, and it starts in free agency and into the 2026 NFL Draft. This team can’t afford any more just nice guys in the locker room that fight through injuries, they need reliability and production.
Instead of leaning on Daniels to elevate the team, they need to surround him with talent and support. Peters should take a swing on some free agents like Alec Pierce, Jauan Jennings, or Romeo Doubs if they hit the market. Whatever they do in free agency could lead to them taking a top wide receiver in the 2026 NFL Draft instead, with players like Jordyn Tyson, Carnell Tate, and Makai Lemon as first-round options.
Of course, Brandon Aiyuk will be a hot name with the Commanders as a clear favorite to land him, and the fit could be perfect if the medicals check out, and the price is right. Whatever Peters decides to do, he has to be more aggressive than last offseason and take some chances on players instead of bringing back the same players and familiar faces.
