Free agency is set to kick off when the new league year does on March 12, but the Washington Commanders can't wait that long to start making offseason moves. 2024 was successful, and they need to build off of it to maintain a steadfast improvement.

It's not often you see teams go from one of the worst in the league to one of the best in a years time. The Commanders, after making some pretty big changes, did just that. They hired a new general manager, head coach, and coaching staff, and put the pieces on the field needed to compete. And boy did they compete. The scoreboard didn't look great, but an NFC Championship appearance during the first year of your rebuild is nothing to be upset about, especially when the one team that beat you in the postseason was the Philadelphia Eagles, who won it all.

There was one other move they made last offseason that probably doesn't get the credit it deserves, but served as a huge key cog on the Commanders last year, on and off the field. Adam Peters and company brought in a player that knew Dan Quinn's defensive system down to the very smallest detail.

Bobby Wagner, a former Seattle Seahawks linebacker under Dan Quinn during the Legion of Boom, signed with the Commanders last season. And while his game has certainly declined from the days of having an all-time defense in Seattle, he was still serviceable, but it's what he did off of the field that helped the most.

Wagner is a real locker room guy, and practically a second coach for Quinn with that defensive scheme.

The Commanders thought it would only be right to bring him back.

According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Commanders are re-signing Wagner to a one-year deal worth $9.5 million.

“Any comments on him, you’ll have to talk to his agent," Quinn said to reporters recently when asked about potentially re-signing Wagner. “He is his agent. I’ve been waiting to say that so long.”

It seems like the Commanders and his agent were able to agree on a deal good for the two sides.
