The losses continue for the Washington Commanders after getting blown out at home against the Detroit Lions.

These aren’t just normal losses for the Commanders; these are four straight non-competitive games that they’re losing embarrassingly. It hit a new rock bottom against the Lions, though, after multiple players showed their anger on the field in the wrong way.

Daron Payne has been one of the best defenders for the Commanders this season, and the long-time vet made a stupid decision when he hurt his team even more. Now the NFL is making him pay for it.

The NFL has suspended Daron Payne for throwing a punch

If you thought the Commanders’ defense hit rock bottom, they somehow continue to find a way to make it even worse. Payne has been a leader and a veteran on this team for years, and he made the dumbest decision possible by getting ejected from the Lions game in the second quarter after punching Lions’ wide receiver Amon-Ra St.Brown in the helmet. Getting ejected was just the beginning of the consequences of his action, and now the NFL has issued a one-game suspension to Payne.

Throwing a punch at a player wearing a helmet is the dumbest thing a player can do, and the NFL wasted absolutely no time in dropping the hammer down on Payne, as they should’ve. The Lions just scored to go up 20-3, and that’s when St.Brown walked by Payne and probably said something to him, which led to Payne throwing a right hook and being sent out for the rest of the game.

Players are fed up with the defense

Payne wasn’t the only one who showed his anger, though. Javon Kinlaw was penalized for pushing an official off of him the very next play after the Lions went for two to go up 22-3. Safety Quan Martin later received an unsportsmanlike penalty for getting in someone’s face on the ground after a play. The players are fed up on the field, and this team is losing its composure. Head Coach Dan Quinn refuses to make any real changes like Dan Campbell did, and he’s the one to blame for all of this.

We see the same results every single week, and nothing different will happen next week. Kinlaw talked about the frustrations after the game and how the guys are feeling about the incidents on the field.

“I just felt like in the moment we were being cheated, to be honest,” Kinlaw said. “Daron [Payne] only retaliated because the refs literally saw the first punch, you know what I’m saying. I don’t blame
him for the way he reacted, you know, and tempers got flying. I mean, it is what it is. It’s a physical
game. S– happens. But on my end, I just got to be smarter in certain situations and protect the
team.”

The Commanders’ defense is historically bad, and now they will be traveling to Madrid, Spain, to take on a Miami Dolphins team that just beat the Buffalo Bills, and will have to do it without its best remaining defender, and no hope in sight.
